Default Location of Datafiles
Datafiles are located in the program installation folder (
C:\BetterWorking). This location should not be changed.
We do not at this stage support running the database across
a network. We also do not support multi user access. A multi
user version may be released at a later date. No support will
be provided for users attempting to use the database in this
way.
Installation
1. If you do not have Microsoft Access
2007 on your computer download and install the Access Runtime
file from the link on the downloads section. If you already
have Access 2007 then you can ignore this step. (Note, we do
not recommend running different versions of Access on the same
computer)
2. Download the install file(betterworking.msi) from the downloads
section and run.
3. You can ignore the demand for a registration key and use
as a trial for 30 days after which the software will stop working.
4. If you have a registration key (obtained from us after paying
for the software), you can enter this in time activate the software.
Uninstallation
Should you wish to remove the database, you should uninstall
using add/remove programs from Windows Control Panel. Please
note that if you intend reinstalling and using existing data,
you will need to backup the betterworking_be
file. Uninstalling from add/remove programs will otherwise delete
your datafile. We will not provide support under these circumstances
unless you have a previously backed up file.
Known Issues
Multiple versions
Currently there is an issue with the BetterWorking database
(and it would appear other access based database products) where
if an older version of MS Access is installed (2003 or below)
the database may not start. Users should ensure that the database
either runs from Access 2007 or the
supplied access runtime engine. previous versions of MS Access
may require uninstalling. This is NOT an issue as such with
the actual database, but rather an issue with all databases
created with Access. If you, like the vast majority of people,
do not have multiple versions of access on your computer, you
can safely ignore this issue.
Security Warnings
Microsoft takes security very seriously. You will note that
when you forst open the Better Working package, you will be
warned that the database is not "Trusted". To work
around these warnings, we have included a small program in the
c:\BetterWorking folder called "Addpath". This program
is not made by Better Working and as soon as we track down the
author we will give him credit as it seems to do the job nicely.
Just run the Addpath program and it will enter the BetterWorking
folder into Microsoft's Trusted locations list on your computer.
You will no longer receive warnings about the database not being
trusted.
Email Form as PDF problem
Users will need to have Microsoft Outlook (not outlook express)
installed to take advantage of this function. In additions,
user will need to have installed the Office
2007 save as PDF add in . After this has been installed,
restart your database. While this is not a "problem"
as such, other options are being explored for those users who
are not able to install MS Outlook.
